Bangladesh’s interior design industry reached a major milestone with the successful conclusion of the IDAB Excellence in Interior Design Award 2024, the country’s first-ever national recognition dedicated to honouring outstanding interior designers. The landmark event, held at Hotel InterContinental Dhaka, was powered by luxury lifestyle brand SWISH.
IDAB President Syed Kamrul Ahsan opened the ceremony by highlighting the industry’s rapid growth and its rising alignment with international design standards.
Award Committee Chairman Shafiul Islam outlined the competition’s rigorous evaluation framework, while Jury Representative Nasreen Zameer praised the remarkably high quality of submissions.
Prominent guests—including Architect Dr. Abu Sayeed M Ahmed (President, IAB) and Dr. S.M. Najmul Imam (Head of Architecture, BUET)—underscored the award’s national significance. Chief Guest Architect Shamsul Wares delivered an inspiring keynote, urging greater global visibility for young Bangladeshi designers.
Awards Presented Across Four Key Categories. Winners were recognised for excellence in: Residential Design, Corporate Design, Hospitality Design, and Retail Design. Awards were presented by top industry figures, including Architect Shamsul Wares, Architect Dr. Abu Sayeed M Ahmed, and IDAB President Syed Kamrul Ahsan, alongside brand partners from Asian Paints, Marble De Carrara, and title sponsor SWISH.
SWISH CEO Mr. Ismail Hossain reaffirmed the brand’s commitment to advancing design excellence in Bangladesh. He also urged the industry to champion globally competitive Bangladeshi brands, acknowledging pioneers from the Great Wall and the Akij Group. His message encouraged the audience to support local innovation with patriotism and glory.
The event concluded with a live performance by Joler Gaan, and a delightful dinner marking the beginning of what promises to be Bangladesh’s most anticipated annual celebration of interior design excellence.
